100 yr old house. French drain in the basement leading to a hole chopped in the cement floor crafted by previous owners. Not exactly the proper way to drain the water. So, I squared up the hole and dug down about 14",made a form and filled with concrete, removed the form and smoothed over with mortar mix. Problem is, it has been months and it is still not cured/dry. This I attribute to the underside essentially surrounded by earth. Yes, it's been a wet summer, but the house sits on a rise and is not in a generally wet area. Ive tried placing a fan over the hole for a few days, and a dehumidifier as well. Nothing changes. It's amazing it just stays at the same moisture level. Is the only solution to deconstruct and line the hole with plastic or tar paper and start over? Thanks!
