Thanks for sharing that example again, nwas, I think that's a good illustration of how USAA treats people involved in accidents with their customers, even when their customers are at fault. I've also read anecdotes about them screwing their own customers on claims which is especially disgraceful since they specialize in offering insurances to military and ex-military folks.
I'd say in my case their behavior definitely crossed the line into unethical when they decided to sit on a letter and then send it late so that by the time I received it I would not be able to respond by their stated deadline and "opt-out" of their settlement offer. This doesn't even take into account the fact that I'd verbally rejected it on the phone numerous times.
I've been in other accidents where the other party was at fault and never had an issue dealing with someone else's insurance until USAA. In fact, all of the other companies I'd dealt with had been responsive and fair.
USAA is simply a sleazy company looking to maximize profits by paying unfair settlements by whatever means possible, even if that means cheating.
