Justin means push in the clutch, shift into 4th to stop the input shaft from turning, then shift into reverse. There ar no synchronizer on reverse, so if the input shaft is turning and the output shaft is stopped, the teeth will grind until the gears pop into alignment. Any forward gear will do; 4th is just closest. (Newer Saab transmissions after 1994 got synchros on reverse, I think.)
I have to do the same thing with first gear sometimes when the synchronizer balks at a stop. A quick pull back into second, then push into first.
