I find your longevity value generous Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sat, 12 Jan 2013 10:09:47 In Reply to: Dont buy a VW/Audi! $1000 to replace a coolant o-ring!, Brian, Fri, 11 Jan 2013 15:46:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I believe that these cars are designed to operate trouble free through their warranty period (plus some extra margin, but not much)! What was leaking, the joint between the cross-head black pipe and the one coming forward along the driver's-side cylinder head? Trying to be ready for the next adventure on my A6.
Re the front suspension: The quote that you got probably has genuine VW/Audi parts used as the basis for the price. Note that other manufacturers make complete kits of parts ranging from $200 to $600. Are they as good as OEM? Maybe not, but are you keeping the car another 100K miles? FYI, the original parts are supposed made by TRW and Lemforder if you are going to gather the parts yourself. I did the suspension work on my old A4 and the biggest headache is that the pinchbolt that holds the two upper control arms to the suspension upright piece rusts in place - needed an impact hammer and torch to remove it.
