It is 100% up to the cat's personalities Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 10 May 2013 12:16:06 In Reply to: Mixing cats and dogs.., Mike Lynch [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 10 May 2013 11:20:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The mature cats can make the puppy tolerate/respect them - probably. Our youngest son has a Shiba Inu dog, a breed that is not always amenable to other pets in the home, yet this dog views cats as potential playmates or objects to ignore.
Our oldest son has an Orange Tabby and the cat is tolerant of the dog, for the most part, with no hesitation to lay an unprovoked paw across the dog's nose whenever the cat feels like it.
My Sister-in-law has three cats and the alpha male is BFF with the Shiba even they don't see each other much. The younger male cat is scared of the dog (the dog spends most of his time sleeping when we visit her with the dog in tow) with tail fluffed, back arched, and snarling/growling all the time, while the female cat just slinks away and hides.
