I suspect the Jeep is a fair bit different than the typical SUV... almost a bit like a convertible, right? cruising, top down, enjoy the fresh air etc... that is almost more enjoyable at lower speeds...
It is true that around here, the speed limits are mostly the equivalent of 60mph, and up to about 75mph, the cops are pretty lenient, and then above that, it's easier to get a decent ticket. I mostly cruise at about 75mph, but vary my speed a bit, and never use cruise control. I've never had a speeding ticket (or any ticket other than parking). Even at those speeds on the highway, it is fun driving a more nimble vehicle, and even at those speeds, I've felt the pinch at the pump behind the wheel of the SUVs I've driven... I have friends, who mostly out of necessity, have succumbed to the SUV world... formerly passionate car guys, who now are bored to tears driving as economically as they can (eg 60mph) with all that weight to pull around... I bet there is a big difference driving a Jeep Wrangler vs. one of those oversized people haulers... I've done the people haulers a couple times and it's really not for me! It really surprises me that the 9-5 sportcombi didn't sell like hotcakes... something went wrong in the marketing or something... too much emphasis on luxury maybe, not enough targeting families? the car is brilliant for an active family of 4! I can't imagine ever wanting a minivan (or jacked up minivan on steroids like the Acadia or Pilot etc)... with 5+, that's a different story, but many minivan/SUV families are <5...
