I have long been interested in EV's from a technical standpoint. I think if Saab had put out a hybrid (especially a plug in hybrid, through the road, and with AWD, like they were developing and like they modeled as a convertible at least a decade ago at some auto show), I would have been eager to get on board. I'm pretty sure Saab would have been a leader in this area had GM not had other motivations.

That said, we don't own an EV or hybrid or diesel right now. We have Saabs that should last us a long time, and are likely to be replaced by used Saabs in the short term if the need should arise. Part of that is because I want a real car, not a prius, and the real car EV options are too costly for our needs... and Saabs are cheap, and I mostly know what to do to make them work for us...

Tesla is quite interesting, but too expensive for a car that is not particularly road trip friendly... Just about everything else I like about it though! Logistically, it is kind of like a 9000...

Volvo hybrids appeal. I am very keen to see what happens with the wheel motors like they used in the Recharge concept. Very interesting stuff there! A wagon (v70/60 or whatever) with those wheel motors would be very interesting if they can work the rest out to make it practical. The wheel motors save space + weight that can be re-allocated to things like a generator or batteries (or more safety features, to quote the program manager from Volvo!)...

For the time being, an EV would be more useful as a local commuter rather than a long distance family hauler... and imho, those cars should be cheap used cars, not expensive new cars, because they suffer lots of wear and tear around the city and if something does break, it's a short tow to the indy or home for a repair... it's only the long haul where used becomes an issue... and there are no appealing used EV/hybrids really... yet...
