Those pilots sure seem to hold their value well on the used market. So yeah, if you have a favourable lease rate with a residual that gives a low enough buy back price, reselling it might actually turn a profit. I bet NoSnaab could do the same with his Wrangler since they barely depreciate also. Any time you pay more in the lease than it depreciates, you should come out ahead... On the 9-5 a number of years ago (when they were still selling them, probably this was 2005), I ran the math and it came out to about $1000 premium to lease vs buy at the rates of the time... but not bad still... 9-5 depreciated something awful! That's why they are so good to buy used!
One thing to factor into the cost of a lease is extra insurance cost: you don't own the car, so you need more coverage. Certainly a used car can cost a lot less to insure, and this can be a significant annual cost (depending on one's driving record).
