Starting Problem/ECU Resetting - Anders Question Repost Posted by Sepposam [Email] (#2131) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Sepposam) on Mon, 30 Dec 2013 06:37:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
this is a repost of a question which was lost during the Saabnet backup crash. So if you answered already, unfortunately, I didn't get it.
My wife's 97 900S convertible has an intermittent starting problem which my local shop chased for a year and fixed but only for a year. The car will fire but only run for a second or two. Sometimes it will run successively longer and be okay after three or four attempts and other times no go at all. The problem is worse in cold weather, but does infrequently occur in warm weather. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal for two or three minutes will cure it, which I discovered, not the 'expert'. Am I correct that this resets the ECU?
Over the long expensive chase the shop replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, ground cable, positive cable, ECU and finally the ignition switch which fixed it for about a year. There may be others that I forgot, and of course, it was tuned during this process.
Is there some other part/sensor that could be the cause? If not, is resetting the only cure, although temporary.
Anders, you mentioned in a post which was also lost the other day that ECU's can be updated. Do you think that would solve the problem. If so, reply here and I will contact you directly concerning that.
If not, all board participants, is there a relatively easy way to wire a switch inside the car which will reset the ECU. It's a workaround, but it's the only way to make the car useable in the winter. so absent another cause the car has to go.
HELP and thanks for any suggestions!
