Only gripe is there seems to be too much variance in the quality of these CFL and LED bulbs based on manufacturer. Lots of obscure "Made in China" names out there, and while the technology in theory can last for years or decades, the manufacturing quality isn't there to let the product fulfill that promise. Plus, I love to dim my lights. Even the "dimmable" CFL and LED bulbs tend to hum/buzz or flicker when they're dimmed, which can ruin the mood.
It does amaze me at how much energy we must be saving collectively by using products that have been developed and adopted in the past 10-15 years. Phasing out all those damn tube-TV's and computer monitors must save an unfathomable amount of energy. Add to that CFL and LED bulbs, efficient appliances (my parents' electric bill dropped about $20/month when they replaced they're old 1980's refrigerator with a new Samsung last year), and the emerging home-automation stuff. I put my front lights on a Belkin Wemo switch recently. It knows my time-zone so they now come on at sunset and turn off at a designated time, and you can even program them to turn on or off based on your proximity to the house using your iPhone.
