As previously mentioned, (not all that) recent codes require fire-rated wall between garage and living quarters. That may well be absolute.
You could think that as that separation considers the attic possibility, changing the location of the non-rated penetration (access door) wouldn't matter. Patch one, cut another, what's the difference? Well, there could be a difference.
The opening in your bedroom isn't rated. It now opens the entire living area to the garage, but you have a gyp ceiling in the garage to create the barrier.
Move the opening to the garage, and even though you've patched the bedroom opening, there's all kinds of breaks in the rate partition. The top of every wall, around flues and other vents, attic HVAC, etc.
I' don't know the particulars of this type of construction, nor your local/state requirements, I'm just considering worst condition.
If my supposition is correct, then all those older houses with common attic and garage access wouldn't meet current codes.
