I don't fully understand it, but filled up in Denver with 85 octane, drove around CO, then up through Wyoming, toured Yellowstone, then the Blackfoots into Cody Wy. It was surreal. I was going uphill and getting 45mpg according to the 9k indicator, and on the level was getting over 60mpg. Told it has to do with the altitude. I just think the car liked Wyoming as well as I did. When I filled up in Cody I still had a few gallons, and drove that tankful from Cody to just outside of Illinois. Do not recall that mileage, but noted something well over 1000 in Cody. From there on, it reverted to the normal 32-35mpg range.
Still would love to see an all electric Saab. Most of my driving is local, and a 100 mi range would be more than adequate. I'll keep a gas or diesel for more long hauls.
