Sounds cool. A few things first though... start with the mechanical engineering!
How heavy is the TV... or more accurately, how heavy is the whole moving assembly going to be?
You should choose a motor with specs that will be able to lift that load at a rate that meets your needs with some margin but not too much. Maybe something like a 12V window motor from a car (saab parts car? ha!) will do it... but maybe it will be overkill. You need to determine that first because overkill means you need to overkill the electronics. You may want to do some gearing.
Once you have a motor spec for power delivery to lift the load, you can work backwards and determine the power spec for the electrical power supply/motor controller, whatever. If your motor is not too big, yeah, a wall wart would be a lot easier/safer than building a power supply to adapt to 120V.
Just plugging stuff together might not work and you could burn something out so don't assume a wall wart will power your motor - design it.
