2006 Toyota Sienna Tranny Problem Posted by EGD [Email] (#663) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EGD) on Fri, 19 Dec 2014 10:54:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My son's baseball pitching coach has a 2006 Toyota Sienna with a 'dead tranny.' Says it was 'slipping' but not making any funky grinding noises before it wouldn't go into gear at all.
He bought the van new and it now has 186K miles. He said he's never, ever changed the fluid and only recently 'topped it off' when he noticed it slipping.
Is it possible that the problem could simply be old, dead transmission fluid, and that a simple transmission fluid replacement would 'fix' the issue?
The coach is not rolling in dough so I'm hoping a $50 DIY effort would save him from getting the $3000 upsell at an Aamco. Would love to keep the coach happy and mobile because my son's pitching may be my shot at a beach house!
Waddya think? TIA.
