Saab's PCV hoopla was only the tip of the ice berg Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Mon, 28 Sep 2015 07:53:46 In Reply to: Re: burning oil, JerseySaab [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 26 Sep 2015 10:48:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
They just happened to be among the first having to deal with it.
Instead of dealing with the real reason (piston rings) they came up with one patch after the other to keep it down long enough until the next engine generation could be released.
Now, I'm fixing PCV issues left and right on most Volvo engines dealing with ruptured rubber diaphragms that creates full vacuum and hooting noises from crank case and plugged vacuum source tubes crucial for proper PCV function.
BMW, the same thing. Ruptured PCV diaphragm suddenly allowing the engine to suck oil right into the combustion chamber making them smoke like a chimney.
