Not to trying to make a better story than your story, as I like it very much, I have a one that happens on the same road. We had two CEs, #291 ( the second Landjet ) and #169, so two black 900s playing tag going down Indy pass. I'm playing Cale Yarlbourgh following the #169 through all the turns, then I pull back as there is a fuel problem with the lead car -- hard left turns, the fuel was puking out of the fill port.....the tank was getting pressurized and then the surge would push out the fuel on a hard left hander.
So, a Porsche Cayenne comes up behind me and passes me at speed without my challenge. I figured that #169 would slow down once he saw I wasn't behind him, but to no avail -- he was going to beat me no matter what. So, I decided to drop the hammer to catch up, and as the switchbacks were adding up and gaining altitude, the Cayenne comes into sight --- I passed it like it was standing still, and the driver looked as if he was trying to coax an extra mph out of the vehicle .....
I ended up catching up to #169 about 8 or so miles ahead, and started flashing my lights and he pulled over. Five or so minutes later, the Cayenne passed us by the side of the road, both the driver and rider were thumbs up waving and smilin'.
Turns out #169 was about out of gas from the purge.
I the photo of the the second Landjet is on the Saab CE daught com site under #291 taken on Dallas Divide. That is probably the last photo of the car taken in Colorado prior to it being damaged beyond repair at a track event.
The Dallas Divide run is another story......
