And it should be one that needs a lot of parts, like a restoration project. Otherwise, what NoSnaab says is pretty much spot on.
I recently bought a bunch of 9K parts from a guy who no longer had any 9Ks. Given that my '96 semi-Aero DD is in decent shape with almost 226K on it, and that I plan to keep the beast until it dies, I will need at least some of them. I actually used two items almost immediately. I'll sell some others. I know a MG restoration guy who just buys "collections" of parts rather than whole cars and that seems to work OK.
But a whole car? Not unless you have the space for it, and a place to put the parts you pull off. I guess the exception would be if a donor had a known good engine or tranny that you could transplant and then scrap the donor, while pulling some other bits off.
OR....if you have the space to keep a few cars, room to work on and take them apart, and then sell the parts, like a few members here do. That works, too, but dissecting cars is a lot of work/time.
