I don't doubt people will do that, just the magnitude Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 4 Apr 2016 13:00:53 In Reply to: Re: OT: Tesla Model 3 Pre-sales, NCCaniac [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 4 Apr 2016 12:46:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
300,000 people willing to drop $1,000 for a chance to be a early purchaser seems unbelieveable to me. But then I can't fathom the 70,000 people who drop $10K to see the Super Bowl in person either.
The Super Bowl analogy actually makes sense of the Tesla Pre-Sales. The NFL can find 70,000 people each year willing to spend $10K just for the bragging rights to say they attended a football game, one that is held annually. I guess it really shouldn't be surprising then that Tesla can find four times as many people willing to spend 1/10 as much for bragging rights to a once in a lifetime event. Whether they go no further than getting their name on the list, or buying a car, or buying one and quickly flipping it for a huge profit. The $1,000 was stated as being fully refundable (I'll park my personal bias at the door on this one) so they really aren't wagering anything of value - provided they don't have an immediate more pressing need for the funds.
Still not for me.
