The situation we are trying to avoid for our kids Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 21 May 2016 14:45:39 In Reply to: Re: OT: Continuing Care Retirement Communities, EGD [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 21 May 2016 06:20:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My Dad suffered a debilitating stroke at age 76 and died a little more than 3 years later. Those three years my Dad spent in a skilled nursing facility, over 20 years ago, cost my Mom over $100K. Even as a factory laborer and housewife they had scrimped, saved, and planned for their future so well that they disqualified themselves from Medicaid coverage for Dad's care.
My wife and I have a total of seven siblings and surviving parent relatives. Of these seven, only two are financially sound. I fear what our future will be with so many family members who had the identical opportunities we did yet squandered them all in a lifetime of bad decisions, failures to act, and failure to head sound advice.
