Best way to remove piston from caliper for seal replace Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sun, 29 May 2016 14:56:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
ment.
When replacing the brake disc and pads last year, upon pressing the piston in the plier slipped and tore a little bit off the rubber boot around the piston. This happened on both sides. It was small enough that I could put some glue on it to make it last.
I want to replace them however and got the kit from eeuroparts. I hear though, that to get the piston out to replace the seals, compressed air has to be blown into the caliper.
A few questions:
- What's the best way to go about this?
- Do I disconnect the brake hose and blow air through the hole, somehow?
- Any risk of damaging the piston?
- How much do I tighten the brake hose onto the caliper? In the past I did finger tight plus a sixth turn.
I want to do this quick and painlessly. This car has never been driven in the snow, so it's going to be nice and clean.
Thanks for the tips.
