There has been so much written on the Takata issue I am all sorts of confused. I believe I read that VW took a very aggressive stance against recalling any of its cars arguing that none of the Takata inflators that found their way into VW cars (made in Europe) have had a single known failure incident. So I read into that argument that there are varying degrees of Takata dangers. Meaning, the inflators sourced in Mexico that stored the explosives improperly are the ones that are truly dangerous, whereas the other Takata parts are being recalled simply because Takata exhibited such a terrible record in Mexico, that all of their stuff is now suspect.
Does anyone here have the time and knowledge to set these issues straight for us? Because I am assuming the Takata inflators that found their way into Swedish-built Saabs are likely the same as what VW was somehow defending.
