It matters because in order to get the oil down to a 0W rating they have to pull the hot side down to the low edge of the 40 mark. An oil that's a 5W-40 will typically have an actual viscosity much higher than 40 where a 0W-40 will be barely a 40. The viscosity modifiers that let them pull a 40 weight range on the 0W-40 also have side effects in other areas. What Brian said is fact. Use a 5W-40 that has good reviews.
