Horrible news from Lloyd's Mats Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 13 May 2019 17:21:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I emailed Lloyd's Mats asking if they had copyright authorization to embroider a set of floor mats with VIGGEN. Their response was worse than anything I imagined.
They replied that they can no longer use any SAAB logo on any of their products as the current trademark agreement with GM does not include the use of SAAB, whereas the former trademark agreement did.
So who owns the SAAB trademark?
I asked a very similar question of our oldest son, an Intellectual Property Attorney, a couple years ago. After a brief search his only comment was that the names are NOT public domain, that someone does indeed own them, but it is not clear who because of the GM to SPYKER to Swedish Government to NEVS transactions, and the refusal of SAAB Aerospace to allow the SAAB name on any automobiles.
My guess is the company which sells SAAB service parts must have at least partial trademark rights and maybe full rights.
But at the end of the day there can be no floor mats with the SAAB logo anymore - at least from Lloyd's.
