These stories are always interesting but not necessarily the whole story.
For example, several war games over the years among international nations have shown various legacy foreign fighter aircraft ‘defeating’ the F-22 in air-to-air combat. Not saying it cannot or will not happen but never assume the F-22 is displaying its full range of offensive or defensive capabilities in these shows. Why would they?
Potential adversaries observe and study war games so it would be foolish to show everything you got lest that adversary come up with an offensive or defensive counter to it.
Again, can’t speak to this Swedish attack on the USS Reagan but, in my humble opinion, it’s highly unlikely the non-NATO Swedish submarine unknowingly penetrated the defensive perimeter of a carrier battle group.
From a disinformation standpoint, allowing this Swedish sub to do so offers a potential adversary information that may put them on the wrong track as they develop their stealth submarine technology. Detecting it and stopping it would have, perhaps, offered a potential adversary even more useful information. (Not saying, of course, Sweden is a potential adversary. Sweden and NATO cooperate extensively.)
As they say, just sayin’...
