It probably won't hurt the paint if it's washed off quickly. But it's all the other places it can get I'd be worried about. It can't be good on rubber (those cars have a good bit of it), it can get down into the ventilation, drip past the door window glass rubber and inside the door, etc. Sure wouldn't want it on the soft top. A good wax job would accomplish the same thing. But the bigger question is how they're shipping it. It sounds like they're using an open trailer, which means they're doing it on the cheap. I can tell you some real horror stories about those kind of shippers. They lost the keys of my bosses' Mercedes and had a trailer fire that burned the entire rear end off his brand new Bentley. Use the brand name guys with an enclosed trailer.
