It could be the way to look at it is from a dealer/service center standpoint. Given that all modern cars are complex and loaded with potentially problematic electronics, if there is a local dealer or repair facility with an excellent reputation it might make sense to look at cars they sell or have the most experience with servicing. For example, I have a friend who had bad computer-related experiences with his daughters Mercedes at dealers, but was able to resolve longstanding problems once he found a good independent Mercedes shop. I have no problems keeping five old SAABs running with what I am able to do plus having an experienced Saab master tech nearby. Just about any tech can replace brake and suspension parts, but it takes knowledge and experience to deal with complex engines and electronics. It also takes very expensive diagnostic equipment that makes it difficult for independents to properly diagnose problems on a wide variety of brands.
