If so, you're doing pretty good if it is just now (or even within the past couple years) just starting to skip! The optics get dirty in an automotive environment much faster than a home environment (I've got a Kenwood home CD player that's going on 13 years old which has never given me a problem). The longest I've had a car CD player last without skipping problems is oh, maybe four years. According to our technician at work, who services several hundred units each month, they will all skip eventually. The Sonys do a little better as the have a read ahead buffer which can compensate somewhat.
Replacing the optics (assembly including the laser and pickup, motor or two, etc..) is probably the most common repair we do on mobile CD decks.
The dampers could be bad as well, after 11 years, but chances are neither they nor the optics are still available. Manufacturers are only required to stock parts for five years after a product's first year of production, some go for seven, but it's rare to see them longer than that (with a few exceptions of course).
Might be time to start looking into a new CD player..
