I'm confused!!!! Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Tue, 7 Nov 2000 12:13:57 In Reply to: Saab SUV, JEF6160, Mon, 6 Nov 2000 20:10:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just want to start by saying that this is not directed at JEF6160, but rather to everyone who reads the posts on this board.
It seems that there are two very conflicting views on this board: one that wants Saab to expand it's model line, and one that doesn't want Saab to build anything but hatchback'ed cars. Honestly, though, it seems that most people would just have Saab NOT build an SUV or anything like that. But I just fail to see the motivation behind saying that. This is what we've been told (hopefully we can believe it):
1) The SUV is a small drain on design/engineering resources at Saab
2) While it shares the platform with Buick/Pontiac, it will have it's own sheet metal, engine, interior, and (in true Saab tradition) safety features
There is no question that Saab needs to expand it's model line. But my question is to those who are against the SUV: What SHOULD Saab build? It seems that in the next 5 years we will see a new 9-3, a roadster/sports coupe, facelifted 9-5, and an SUV. How else can Saab expand their line, but keep true to tradition? Should they build personal aircraft that double as cars? Maybe a flying saucer?
It just seems to me that, while the SUV is not the *best* idea that's come from the GM/Saab entity, it's probably one of the most logical. From an economic view, there is a small investment for Saab, and mostlikely a small return, but at least they're getting Saabs out there. I pray that they never make a minivan or a truck! We'll have people dropping like flies from the shock!!
My question is this to the SUV haters-- What should Saab make instead of an SUV?
Thanks for your input!!
