I originally grew up in Union county, but moved to hudson county to commute to school in the city. Housing is much cheaper and it justifies the commute definitely. Where i live, parking sucks but is still much better than in NY. It's a nicer place to live too and i am on the cliffs along the hudson so i have a view =) OK, another thing.. cars get TRASHED in NY unless you park nightly in a garage and park all day in a garage. Then you only have to worry about the actuall driving but noone knows how to drive in NY, especially cabbies. It always amazes me how dumb people are when i see them driving 911's, Bentlys, Aston Martins, etc ...
There are plenty of busses in the area or trains that will get you into the city from here in about 15 mins without traffic.. right through the lincoln tnnel. Good luck, e-mail me if you need some specifics.
