I went to the Dallas auto show this weekend and here are my thoughts:
Bad: The SAAB display was stuck in one of the four corners of the convention center (somebody has to be there) and you could have almost missed it because it was part of the GM family of vehicles, placed behind Chevy and Olds if I remember. THere was nothing to the booth itself other than the cars. Why couldn't SAAB hgave a neet little area on its own (more expensive yes). Volvo is owned by Ford but they were out on their own and had platforms, etc. Good: They had all the major cars displayed including two Viggens (regular and covertible) and an Aero. The cars themselves showed well. Bad: SAAB listed the MSRPs but tells you nothing about discounts, etc. (probably not allowed at the show). On the other hand, at the BMW display, they have an MSRP price list with the heading, "prices start at $X". THe ignorant boserver walks away thinking the 3 series is actually cheaper than the 9.3 SE, when in fact it's the very opposite. I've looked at BMWs very closely and thye are all pakcaged with a number if expensive options that price then into a different league. Good: GM also had a separate display for On Star with two cars highlighted: The Batmobile (very cool) and a black 9.5 Aeor with BBS wheels. Very hot! I considered it payback from GM that out of all cars to display with the batmobile, they chose a 9.5 instead of a Trans Am or something. I like red cars ythe best but after seeing that Aero, I wanted a black 9.5 In sume, the cars were good but the diplay (including real price info) left a lot to be desired. Josh Harrison
