If you have an oil analysis done the wear metals will be high during break-in, The wear metals are from the cylinder walls/rings, and the various bearings. The wear metals will taper off after the second oil change and remain fairly constant throughout the life of the engine. toward the end of the engine life they will start to rise again.
The analysis is not really cost effective for an engine with a 4-5 qt capacity, it is cheaper to just change the oil. I used to be a truck mechanic, we used oil analysis to monitor the condition of the fleet of Macks (60 qt oil capacity).
Changing the oil after the first 1000 mi will not do any damage and for the peace of mind it is worth the $4.45/qt for Mobil1 and the price of a good filter.
