Saab and Quality

The new J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey was recently released, and the results are not bad at all for Saab. While not up to the standard set by Lexus (neither is anyone else), Saab is right in the hunt, and better rated than many other brands which foloks perceive as quality champs. Maybe the publicity of reports like this will serve as an eye-opener for some folks eyes who may have misconceptions (misgivings?) about Saab ownership.
And, as a bit of more good news from the report, the 9-5 was rated "Best Mid-Luxury Model". I think the 9-5 has really won Saab some converts. At my recommendation (insistance), some good friends of mine test drove a 9-5 back in October 1999. They had never owned a foreign car before, never driven anything but good old American V8's (which are fine, by the way). Anyway, they wound up proving Saab's advertising claim.."People who test drive a Saab usually buy one", because they drove it, loved it, bought it in NOvember 1999, and have never looked back. They chose a 2000 9-5 automatic and even preferred the 4-cylinder over the V6 (because my friend felt that a 4-cylinder was more "true Saab")! And, since day one, they have not had a single problem with the car. They're fond of saying that the Saab is the first car they've ever owned which makes them feel "special" when driving it. Naturally, I've taken full credit for giving them such an enlightened recommendation. Of course, now I need to take my own advice, stop procrastinating, and get another Saab for myself.
