Last week, during a fairly bad rainstorm with alternating fog and hard rain, I put my rear fog light on. When I got home, I checked it out (I'd never used it before), and it looks to me like another brake light, only it looks as if one bulb is out. What purpose does this serve? I'm thinking of just putting the other bulb in the unused socket, because this situation doesn't make sense to me. I can understand that the fog light won't light up when the brakes are applied, buy why only one and not two? And even if the lights don't light up when braking, how does this reduce your chances of getting rear-ended (regardless of how many bulbs are used)?
