EDU reads wild MPG: Larger problem?

I re-read thread http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9000/index.html?bID=73053 on an errant EDU reading, and commented in agreement with those who's EDU's work fine.
Bad move: My EDU has now developed an increasing frequency of nonsense. Could this be a power problem? (I suspect my battery's losing it)
I've looked down to see readings of 97mpg, and 35mpg. The latter number is nearly as optimistic as the former, Chicago commutes keep me down in the high teens (19 to 23mpg).
So, stipulating that I may be having a battery with a blown cell (reduced capacity) do you wise peoples concur that voltage-drop on startup might be reaching the "Confuse the EDU" level?
Might this also explain the SRS light? And is there really a way to clear the SRS by removing the battery for 30 mins? (I'd like the SRS to rescan itself, as I know that killing the power to its controller while running will cause a fault.)
Aargh: My car reads this board closely: everyhting you friends write, it developes soon after.
Thanks,
Ben
