if you can, get into NJ Manufacturer's Insur.
I believe its an invite only kinda thing or used to be. You had to be with a co. that did or had business with them. great prices, and a rebate if they make a certain amount of $$. My wife was with them when she was at a certain job, and while she has since left, by law nj mfrs' must renew you. The reason I tell you to check them out despite the above is that since all the recent insur regulations have been about, they may not get away with being so selective. also, I know NJ now has a "take-all-comers" rule which may allow you to get in. worth a try.
otherwise welcome to the highest insurance rates in the nation, and climbing. lets see, statefarm (the state's largest insurer) is pulling out of the state and AIG insurance (the 4th) is also stated as planning on filing a withdrawal plan (what's needed to withdraw from state). geico and progressive won't write policies in the state. who does that leave us with? i dunno, but its exceptionally expensive if you live north of princeton and east of morristown.
my last spg (88) was $1,200 a year for only liability, no collision and no theft/comprehensive. I had no accidents and no tickets in like 10 years. I was over 25 (but under 30). then again, I lived in Hudson county.
