Hey there..
99's are becoming increasingly rare these days. I dont think that a non-saab fan would call it a collectors item but us Saab geeks love them. It might be a good idea to sell the car here on the classifieds so someone can restore it. Those are low miles and someone would love to have it here I'm sure.
Also, I dont want to judge your son.. but as a 19 year old I know that usually giving new drivers special cars is a bad idea. I think a beater car is usually the way to go with a new driver so its not such a big deal if they get into an accident. I've never gotten into any accidents but I know plenty of people who have started driving with their brand new cars and within months it was totalled or damaged, etc.
I bet you can sell that car for a nice amount of money and afford to buy your son something that will be more reliable, newer, safer, and something that's not so special.
