1989 900 Turbo excellent shape, been having problems with the center vents not working during acceleration. I checked everything I could and was told to replace the check valve under the hood at the storage tank, did it and that did not do it.

Vacuum Hose off under dash: Hissing .........

I began the process of removing the radio so I could look inside the dash for a possible line that was off. I did locate a line off the back of the servo that opens and closes the vent, I put it on then proceded to operate the switch for the vents, same sh#$ different day.

Strange thing has been happening here, when I first got the car it never worked on high, always the second setting. Now today when I hooked this vacuum line back up to the servo I could see the servo was operating but it would go from one point to the end, nothing in between. If I put it on the second setting I would get air out of the end vents but still not the center. And yes I still get the Hissing in the dash. When I would put it on the high setting the hissing noise would stop but then I could see smoke coming from the switch, obviously something is getting hot that was not getting hot before.

Here is what I am thinking:

1. The electric vacuum switch has been replaced before recently, this is the one with all the hoses going to it, but I could have a bad switch which I don't think so, or a wire somewhere in the run that is exposed. When that line is energized we got problems, we get hot, we get smoke and we turn it off. Maybe bad switch, I have one on standby just in case.

2. I obviously have a line off one of the other two servos " car has three to my knowledge, so the kick boards have to come out, because there is NO other @#$%& way to get to the servo's.

While I have the kick boards out trace the wire down from the switch and look for a problem

If anyone has gone through this please share all you can because this has been driving me @#$##@@@@%$#$$$$ crazy!

Thanks

ddv
