Audi and VW are switching to a new generation
of Direct Fuel Injection engines, as it looks
now there seems to be a technical problem
which would be rather expensive to overcome
with their new FSI technology for use on turbo
engines. VW is already phasing out the 1.8L turbo
in many markets, replacing it with a 150-170Hp V5 engine.

Audi has already a new 2.0L 150 engine will replace
the 150Hp 1.8L Turbo. The new RS6 will no longer use
a turbo engine... the 2.7L V6 twin turbo will be replaced
by a V8 engine. Only the diesel engines will keep the
turbo for obvious reasons. Warranty problems for VW/Audi
for turbo engines also seem to be an issue, but marketing
is of course not very happy about people buying a 150Hp
turbo Golf to tune it to 225Hp for a fraction of the cost
of a faster Golf.

BMW, not a big fan anyways of Turbo/Supercharging will only
use a supercharger on its NG Mini. All the other engines
will remain non Turbo.

Mercedes is also switching to Direct Fuel Injection on its
engines, thus the Supercharged AMG engines will all be replaced
with Atmo. versions.

But there is one more reason for this... the E.U. has banned
91 octane (US +/- 87) and is also considering a ban on 98 octane
(US +/- 92) fuel. This would reduce the choice to 95 octane (US +/- 89)
gas. There seems to be some pressures from gas importing countries
in Europe to ban this more expensive gas.

Considering that Turbo engines are more efficient, there is only
one logical explanation why some manufacturers don't like them...
a) too easy to CHIP b) harder to get right

Looks like some interesting times ahead!...
Looks like SAAB and a few others will soon be the only
companies selling turbo cars.

Regards,
Coolknight
