I've been using AMSOIL in my Saabs for about 24 years now. I've changed a lot over at 100,000 miles, some other cars with as much as 200,000.
If you are leaking or using a lot of oil now, probably not a good idea to change. If the engine is sound, then I wouldn't hesitate.
I recommend use of a good engine flush first--either AMSOIL or BG are excellent. If you don't, or won't flush, then the synthetic will clean the engine more slowly. Plan to change the filter after a couple of thousand miles (or if you see a sudden increase in oil consumption).
I've been draining AMSOIL at 25,000 miles OR a year for the non-turbos, 10,000 miles OR a year for the turbos (oil filter change at 1/2 interval).
I would not hesitate to run Mobil 1 15,000 miles. I wouldn't use any of the other synthetics more than 5000-7500 miles.
As far as filters, AMSOIL, Mobil 1, Harddriver are the most efficient in dirt removal and ability to maintain flow when holding dirt.
