Here's hope that reason prevails over anger.....

Anger is a natural response to the heinous crime that was committed.
However, I'm very concerned with all the sabre rattling that has
followed. For Bush and his generals to say that we'll go after "those
that harbor" anyone connected to this crime is very disconcerting, but
shouldn't really surprise anyone. The implication is that innocent
civilians in Afghanistan will probably pay. It certainly won't be
the first time that civilians get slaughtered in the name of some
outlaw. Most recently, it was civilians in the ex-Yugoslavia that
suffered for the sins of Milosevic (some will protest that it was
a millitary war, but NATO destroyed much more than just millitary
targets: embassies and hospitals were only a few of many targets
explained away as "collateral damage". The point is this: although
anger is a natural response, often times the anger is mis-directed.
We should be angry with leaders who have embarked upon a foreign policy,
the 'New World Order', which has done more than anything to promote
anti-American feelings all over the world. Bombing the crap out of
another country will do nothing but increase anti-American/imperialist
feelings and make the world a less secure place. Before we start shooting
from the hip, wouldn't it be better if we asked ourselves, what are the
conditions that provoke such desperate acts? Part of this, I think, can
be explained with fanatical religious fundamentalism, which takes on
weird forms, even in this country. But there are, undoubtedly, other
reasons. It would be prudent to think about these rather than to embark
upon some John Wayne-esque response that indiscriminately punishes a
whole country for the sins of a few sick individuals. If not, then we're
no better than the monsters that took over those airliners.
