MY '01 9-3 SE performs well in the heat but it's still new and we'll see how it wears over time. Past experience has taught me that common sense rules: you have to keep your cooling system (hoses, water pump, etc.) and battery dialed in. Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere can be life threatening in summer. I suggest you replace your battery every two years whetheer you think it's still OK or not. If you'll be doing lots of dirt road driving I suggest getting an old Ford F-150 pickup or something similar to beat on. High ground clearance helps on the dirt.
