Took Corvette in for battery, oil change, emissions test and to have the forever warping front brakes replaced. Car had been sitting for about a year and only had about 10psi in the tires (it was taken in on a flatbed).The Goodyear tires were new in '98 and have maybe 5,000 miles on them. According to the dealer the tires have dry rot and need to be replaced ASAP.
Tires do have some in my opinion slight checking (little tiny cracks) but it does not extend up the walls or into the tread. Car has been sitting and will be driven in an area where the temp often reaches 115 degrees. I seldom drive the car its more of a toy, and it is never driven at high speed.
Question I have is does it sound like the tires need replacement now or can they be safety used for another year.I don't want to risk damage to the car in the event of a blowout, but these tires are in the neighborhood
of $900 bucks for the set and I don't want to needlessly waste my money either. Any advice?
