SAAB Press Release on Production Posted by Ian Glenday [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This is over a month old but will explain why some deliveries have been slow as well as other tidbits (from the SAAB Media site.
"Saab Automobile boosts production to meet demand
March sales for Saab Automobile were better than ever last month. The added demand for Saab 9-5 and Saab 9-3 prompted a decision at Saab Automobile to augment 9-5 production during the second quarter and continue the manufacture of the 9-3 in Finland during the autumn.
“Increased production implies a two-week postponement of the planned holiday for those working with the Saab 9-5,” says Lars Danielson, Vice President - Vehicle Manufacturing, Saab Automobile.
“The volume increase which we had in March is, of course, very satisfying and according to our prognosis, the positive trend will continue in April and May,” says Hans Karlander, Director of Sales at Saab Automobile. “We have had an upswing in demand for Saab 9-5 and 9-3 in Sweden and a substantial sales increase in the USA in March. Together with the 3.0 TiD and 2.2 TiD, two recently introduced 9-5 diesel engines, we expect an increase in volume for the typical European diesel markets and a production reorganization in order to meet the demand,” continues Hans Karlander.
Manufacture of today’s Saab 9-3 classic Coupe model at Valmet in the Finnish city of Uusikaupunki (Nystad) will begin in September. The cars will be produced mainly for Nordic markets.
“Our five-door 9-3 has sold very well for a long time in Sweden and we see no indication that the demand is waning,” says Per Jarlsmark, Market Area Director Nordic Region. “With that type of background, it is natural to continue manufacturing, especially since we already have a high-quality 9-3 production in Finland.”
For many years, Valmet has successfully produced the Saab 9-3 Cabriolet and production will continue as usual even after the start of the new year."
