If you step back and look, these changes were made to appeal to the general buying public. In regards to handing and performance the 9-3 is second only to the 3 series (it killed the Audi, Jag, and Volvo), but not by much. The major difference will be our price point. Our price comes in way under the rest of these cars, and we are as good or better than all of them. Our interior electronics are far superior. This car will eat up a great deal of marketshare. It was a Saab sacrifice made to sell vehicles, and it will sell vehicles. It has gotten nothing but favorable press, and no longer looks to be the stereotypical "quirky" Saab. I know that we love our cars, but the majority of the buying public doesn't like the styling. This car will appeal to a great deal more people, therefore more will be test driven, therefore more will be sold.
Like I said, I'm looking forward to the car, but I'm not trading my Viggen just yet. It's hard for me to justify replacing sheer horespower and torque for a better sound system and cupholder. Granted the chassis is better as well as the suspension dynamics. And the drive is incredible, but the power hasn't arrived, yet. When is does, I might jump ship and trade up to the new one.
Cheers,
Brian.
