...and it was excellent.
I've never been in a theater where *every* seat was taken about 40 minutes before the movie started. We went to see it at the Mall of America in Minneapolis and (I think) 8 of 12 screens at the theater were for LOTR: Two Towers. We bought tickets online the week before and got there at 9, and there was already a long line! By the time we started entering the theater, though, we were well in the first half of the people who entered... it was great. The guy at the front of the line had been there since 4 that afternoon. We all made it into the theater with plenty of time, though, and after a few troubles with sound (argh) the movie was great. It was well worth getting back at 4:15 in the morning for it! Funny, but both LOTR movies have flown by for me... when the three hours are up, I was still ready for more movie!
I think both movies have done justice to the books, which is part of the reason I think they're so successful. Of course, there's also the great storyline and such, too :)
