Is hang gliding your only choice? Para gliding is fun Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Tue, 18 Feb 2003 00:35:59 In Reply to: Way OT - Hang Gliding, Mr. Science, Sun, 16 Feb 2003 21:49:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
too. NOT to be confused with Para Sailing that you do at vacation resorts after a boat.
I took a class in Para Gliding back in Sweden, it was a trip to pull the canopy up behind you and start to run toward the edge of the mountain, feeling the canopy starting to lift your butt up and when you reach the edge, just gently pull the steering toggles down slightly and FLY out from the mountain seeing the trees getting smaller and smaller.
That was the best part of all of it. Since I already had so many skydives under the belt, beeing free from the ground rush and out in the open, it was more or less like the last part of a jump.
[A Swede I know, Peter Degerfeldt, Para glided off Mount Everest from about 6000 meters altitude (approx 22,000')]
But Para gliding is a lot cheaper than hang gliding and you can run away and do it on your own whenever you feel for it, just back packing up to the slope and take off.
Or like they do it here in Palos Verdes, CA. Just use the up winds riding the bluff, over looking the Pacific. Cool.
