My preference is for both. I have a deep cycle in my car (92 9kt)and at one point I was running about 1300 watts, 1000 of which were dedicated to a pair of 12 inch subs. The bass could would so hard that your vision would blur and the voltage would drop enought to dim the lights and the ACC. A 1 farad cap would have sorted this out, but I didn't keep the set-up long, I was in fact jsut testing a new amp for the shop I was working at the time. In practice, I prefer to solve current consumption problems by avoiding them. Look for woofers that have high sensitivity and digital amps that use about half the current of conventional designs. I've put together some amazingly loud cars using less than 200 watts dedicated to the bass.
