Fast as hell (365HP/395TQ at the rear wheels) but VERY expensive to maintain.

Overall, I would be hesitant to buy the car unless you are confident you will have at least a $1,000 around at all times for repairs. I'm not trying to scare you but I made the mistake of buying my 944T when I was just out of school and got crazy in debt over it. The car you're looking at sounds like it is fanatically maintained but it is still at least a 15 year old car (if not 20) and therefore requires some vigilance.

The 944 is a blast to drive, even without the turbo, purely because it has 50/50 weight balance and amazing handling. Much more forgiving than a 911 but easier to drive fast. Also, there are a ton of parts out there to upgrade any aspect of the car but again, repairs can be expensive. If you go ahead with the car, PLEASE do yourself a favor and have it checked out by a reputable Porsche shop. I didn't do this and $3,000 later (after 2 months of driving the car), I was buying a new tranny!

You may also want to consider a used 944 Turbo. Much more power, stronger engine internals, bigger brakes, and beefier suspension. These cars can be had for $5K or $6K and can be modded to 300HP for very little money. IMHO, there isn't a better value in the used sports car marketplace!

Good luck,

Derek
