Photo of my SAAB toys... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 17 Dec 2020 11:43:29 In Reply to: Re: Since retirement....., No Snaab, Thu, 17 Dec 2020 04:28:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I purchased the ninth kit (of an estimated 55 kits sold) in mid-summer, it had never been fully assembled but my purchase included many of the parts necessary to complete assembly. This photo was taken before I started dismantling the car. The chassis and control arms are now stripped down for repainting, the rusty old galvanized bottom skin removed for replacement with Aluminum, one of the two included engines (a '63 Bull Nose stroker) is crated for shipment to a rebuilder in Iowa. I have been able to obtain an original set of Quantum pedals which were missing from my kit, a pump-erator which is boxed for shipment to a rebuilder in Virginia, and an aluminum Clutch/Bell Housing set up for cable actuated clutch operation (versus hydraulic) which was the method used when these kits were sold. The clutch plate is boxed for sending to a rebuilder/refacer in Oregon.
I still need a starter, and I need to find a source to rebuild the 4-speed transmission which has lower gear ratios (better for the stroker's power band) since its donor car was a 95 model rather than 96.
My intent is not to race it or build it for current race specifications, but rather to build it as an original configuration car, i.e. 1964. Hence my use of a cable actuated clutch and I will retain the original roll bar and frame rail fuel tanks - both of which are no longer spec compliant for competition.
I have met a couple other people via the 'net who are also currently building up abandoned Quantum kits.
