Let see if I can dig through the questions.
If you really want the 240 SW out of estetic or sentimental choice, it's not much to say.
To me, the 240 SW is just an old rattle bucket compared to the 700/900.
DL does NOT stand for diesel. It is just an equipment choice and on the 200 series, going DL (Deluxe) or GL (Grandluxe) didn't really mean much in those years.
Some years also had the GLE which was a little more luxuary but also sometimes meant having the V6 engine which wasn't a good thing to have later on.
I think also that the diesel was only available up to 86/87 so that leaves you with even older 200 and 700.
Yes, it was an Audi/VW 6 cyl engine and in the 700 series it was equipped with turbo which at least made the car move forward a little bit.
I can't say if the 940 only came in auto, here in LA we have mostly automatic Volvos to begin with so I can't remember seeing a 940 with stick but I do see 740 stick at rare occasions.
The 960 though, only came in auto so don't confuse the 940 with the 960 which is two different cars.
